THERE is a bit of good news for consumers as major shopping chains in Spain have promised to absorb the impending 3% IVA (VAT) increase.

Supermarket giant Mercadona, which claims 90% of its more than 8,000 lines have kept the same prices from a year ago, is the latest to announce it will not pass on the IVA increase to customers, joining other big names including, Inditex, Eroski, Carrefour, Lidl, Mango, H&M and Corefiel.

The IVA rate is set to jump this weekend from 18% to 21% with the reduced rate rising from 8% to 10%, while the super-reduced rate, which applies to fresh food staples, books or prescription drugs, will remain at 4%. Read more »

Mariano Rajoy is not considering further VAT or Personal Income Tax increases in the 2013 Budget and hopes not to have to take such difficult decisions for the Spanish people as those taken during the first months of his term in office.

The President of the Government also calls for greater economic and fiscal integration within the European Union; “no steps backward will be taken; not by the Euro, not by the Single Market and not by the Union”.

The last month of July, the President of the Spanish Government , Mariano Rajoy, announced that the general rate of VAT will increase (up to now, 18%) three points, up to 21%; the reduced type will increase two points (from 8% to 10%) and the super-reduce type a 4 % will be maintained. Read more »

The Junta de Andalucía has asked for IVA/VAT not to be put up on golf courses.

The I.U. Councillor for Tourism and Trade, Rafael Rodríguez, has written to Central Government to complain that the IVA increase is going up from 8% to 21%. Read more »

Specifically in 2012, more than two million euros (2,041,350) euros will be earmarked to promoting projects and activities associated with self-employment, the social economy and corporate social responsibility. This money will be managed by the non-profit organisations and public and private universities whose projects are selected via the tender published on Monday in the Official State Gazette.

“This financial aid is intended to help drive entrepreneurship in Spain, so all those activities that foster the entrepreneurial spirit through self-employment, the social economy and corporate social responsibility will be given priority. Furthermore, any action aimed at commemorating 2012 as the ‘International Year of Cooperatives’ will also be considered priority”, said Miguel Ángel García Martín, Director-General for Self-Employment, the Social Economy and Corporate Social Responsibility. Special 3% Tax for non resident companies in Spain.

The Spanish law firm, Arcos & Lamers Asociados would like to line out an amendment on Spanish Tax law with regards to foreign companies that do hold property/ies inSpain.

The entities, not resident  and with-out a permanent settlement in Spain, that are owners of a real estate property in Spain, are subject to the Special 3% Tax for non resident companies, which is due on the 31st  of December each year, and to be settled during the month of January of the following year. A Marbella animal shelter is appealing for donations and volunteers to help look after a rising number of abandoned animals.
Triple A currently has 350 dogs, 242 cats, two pigs, seven seagulls and a duck at their shelter on the Carretera de Ojén. Now bosses at the charity are warning that numbers are set to rise next month when people go on holiday and leave their pets on the street.
Jan Weima, 67, a volunteer and founding member at Triple A, said that they are currently organising a number of fundraisers to help cover the 18,200 Euro monthly cost of running the shelter. Read more »

The average number of contributors to the Spanish Social Security system increased by 4,896 in July, raising the total figure to 17,032,738. Tomás Burgos stressed that “the outlook for the Spanish economy remains far from a clear recovery, and that is reflected in sluggish contributor figures for July”.

In month-on-month terms, the General Regime grew by 112,004 contributors (up 0.81% on June) to an average total of 13,875,453. Read more »
